Here is a humorous tale of medical students showing importance of attentiveness.I found it interesting.Here it goes-

1st year Students of MBBS were attending their 1st Anatomy class.

They all gathered around the surgery table with a read dead dog.

The Professor Started class by telling two important qualities as a Doctor.

e.g. He inserted his finger in dog’s mouth & on drawing back…..tasted it……in his own mouth.

Then he said them to do the same.

by manojgumber

[tweetmeme service=”bit.ly” source=”LeisureHoursWP” ]
I had been looking for a good fully feature dictionary software on linux for a long time. For some time I had been running Cambridge and McMillan Dictionaries using wine. There was no native linux dictionary having full fledged features as these dictionaries.

However now I am amazed by Oxford Advanced Learner Dictionary 8th edition which is available for both windows and linux. And I have installed its linux version on my ubuntu karmic and it is working really awesome. I am very impressed like your long felt need is fulfilled.

Memorable Kavya Sandhya Evening at MNNIT

by manojgumber

March 18, 2010 is now a memorable day for me. Because this evening I had been spell bound by the charisma of Hindi poetry of our country. Yeah during the cultural fest of my College, MNNIT, this was evening of Kavya Sandhya. What made evening special was presence of The Most Popular Poet among youth Kumar Vishwas, the foundation of Hindi Poetry Budhdev ji, Sarvesh Astana and a few more.

After listening to Kumar Vishwas, I am sure he truly deserves it why he is so much popular. His poetry, wits, sense of humor makes him a great entertainer. He had deep concerns for social issues and touched it in his poetry. He kept the audience spell bound for around two hours. Every single person had enjoyed him heartily. MP Hall was totally packed. This was the most popular event of Culrav.

Other poets were also very good. I liked Budhdev ji for his meaningful poetry. His two lines of poem conveyed deep meanings. Sarvesh Astana had a very humorous style of poetry.

After this Kavya Sandhya, I am a fan of Hindi Kavita. Hope I get a chance to listen to Kumar Vishwas again.

Fixing Flash Issues in Ubuntu Karmic 9.10

by manojgumber

[tweetmeme service=”bit.ly” source=”LeisureHoursWP” ]

Flash does not work fine by default in Ubuntu Karmic and creates a lot of problems. This can be fixed by installing official flash from Adobe.com

  • First of all , uninstall any existing flash packages. Otherwise they  will clash with this package. You might have gnash / swfdec / adobe plugins installed earlier. So remove them before trying this.

    $ sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-installer flashplugin-nonfree mozilla-plugin-gnash swfdec-mozilla

  • Go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ . It has a menu which asks version to download . Select ‘ tar.gz  for Linux ‘ package  and download.
  • Extract the files of this tar package

    $ tar -xvf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz

  • It contains a file libflashplayer.so.
    Copy this file to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins (Note – firefox should be closed while doing this )

    $ sudo cp libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/

  • Start firefox and type ‘ about:plugins ‘ in address bar to check if the flash plugin is installed properly.

    It will show an entry for

Shockwave Flash

File name: libflashplayer.so
Shockwave Flash 10.0 r45
Thats all. Flash is working fine on karmic now.

Partition Table Entries Are Not In Disk Order.Problem??

by manojgumber

[tweetmeme service=”bit.ly” source=”LeisureHoursWP” ]

The above problem happens when you manually add / create / delete partition and partitions get /dev/sdx numbers which are different from their physical ordering on disk. Still this is not a problem at all. Even if you want that partition numbers should be in their order in hard disk , this can be done.

Here fdisk utility comes to rescue.

Encrypt & Secure Your Files Using vi Editor

by manojgumber

[tweetmeme service=”bit.ly” source=”LeisureHoursWP” ]

Do you know that you can encrypt your source code files and other text files using vi editor? Isn’t vi editor wonderful.

It is very simple. While creating new file which you intend to encrypt

leisurehours@wordpress-laptop : ~ $ vi -x file1.txt

To encrypt an existing file , open it with vi using -x option

leisurehours@wordpress-laptop : ~ $ vi -x file1.txt

vi editor will now ask for password twice. Whenever you will open the file again with vi editor, it will ask for password to decrypt the file. When opened using other editors , file will show only garbage text.
